You will provide clinical nursing expertise and clinical leadership within the Older Persons Mental Health Service (OPMHS) Rapid Access Service. The provision of education, counselling and group work is considered essential components of care which are directed towards the attainment of optimum consumer health and recovery. This will involve consultation and liaison with other professional disciplines and non-governmental organisations. As well as providing direct mental health care to consumers, you will provide valuable clinical leadership to nurses within the service, and coordinate projects and the development of practice standards which contribute to improving consumer outcomes. The focus of the OPMHS in South Australia is to support older people to maximise their mental health. This is achieved through working with the community, ageing and primary health care sectors to prevent or reduce the incidence and/or escalation of mental health issues. By positioning community mental health teams at the centre of care in the community and strengthening the resources of these teams, there is a greater potential to intervene earlier and prevent a high incidence of mental health issues among the older population.
You will be registered or eligible for registration as a Nurse by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and hold or be eligible to hold a current practicing certificate. You must be enrolled in an approved Mental Health course or hold a qualification in Mental Health practice. With demonstrated experience in a community mental health team setting, you will have a high level of competence in mental health nursing practice in accordance with the appropriate standards of practice. Your strong leadership skills will equip you to lead clinical practice change and manage multiple demands within the service.
