Working under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, you will assist with the provision of professional high quality patient care within a correctional services setting. Maintaining cooperative and productive working relationships with the health care team at Port Augusta Prison, you will implement appropriate nursing care and assist with general and specialised procedures from nursing care plans. You will plan and prioritise your own work program to achieve defined outcomes and exercise judgment when it is required to solve problems arising in your work area. You will provide verbal and documented information within your scope of practice to patients and other health care team members. You will be working with incarcerated patients and their families where there are multiple complexities and diverse cultural backgrounds. The South Australian Prison Health Service (SAPHS) provides services directly, to adult men and women incarcerated in all government run prisons in South Australia. SAPHS provides primary health care focussing on chronic and acute disease and promoting good health, working collaboratively with Mental Health Services and Drug and Alcohol Services to support and manage patients with mental illness and significant substance abuse problems.
You will be enrolled or eligible for enrolment as a Nurse by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and hold or be eligible to hold a current practicing certificate. With experience within the boundaries of your education and skill preparation, you will be capable of providing nursing care in accordance with the appropriate standards of practice. Your effective verbal and written communication skills will enable you to work well within a team environment.
