Position

The Nurse Practitioner Drug and Alcohol Community Outpatient Services will deliver evidenced based clinical practice within and across DASSA's Community based regional (metro and country) clinical services, including reviewing clients whose compliance and adherence to treatment is suboptimal, providing  prescribing services within a defined medication formulary (NP), consultancy for nurses stabilising new clients and provide comprehensive biopsychosocial assessment including history and physical examination of clients experiencing substance use disorders. The Nurse Practitioner will evidence a current scope of practice within alcohol and other drug nursing, and/or poses a transferable complimentary skill set and be willing to extend knowledge and experience within a structured DASSA transition program to achieve credentialing in alcohol and other drug speciality area. 

The Nurse Practitioner will act with autonomy and undertake nursing care and clinical decision making within the defined scope of practice. The role will provide consultancy for GPs involved in the 'Suboxone Opioid Substitution Programme' (SOSP) and seek to improve health outcomes and treatment retention for vulnerable high risk groups including post release prisoners. 

You will be registered or eligible for registration as a Nurse by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and hold or be eligible to hold a current practicing certificate. For appointment at Nurse Practitioner level you must have a requisite Masters. You must also have demonstrated competence and experience in the relevant area of nursing (alcohol and other drugs) and/or competence and experience in a transferable and complimentary skill set and be willing to extend knowledge and experience within a structured DASSA transition program to achieve credentialing in alcohol and other drug speciality area in accordance with the appropriate standards of practice. You will bring experience in the leadership and direction of student nurses, enrolled nurses and less experienced registered nurses. With the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team and prioritise workloads, you will be creative, innovative and flexible when approaching issues within the healthcare setting.
