Working in a specialist forensic mental health service, this is a great opportunity to support consumers to re-integrate into the community. You will contribute to service innovation and development and make a valuable contribution to the multidisciplinary team, and have the ability to establish long term therapeutic working relationships with consumers, their carers and families. Providing evidence-based mental health nursing care, you will assess individual consumer needs and plan, implement or coordinate appropriate service delivery form a range of accepted options. You will also assist with providing health education, counselling and rehabilitation programs to improve the health outcomes of individual consumers or groups.
Ashton House provides a range of recovery-oriented and treatment services, therapy and educative programs to forensic consumers during the period of transition from a secure inpatient setting and the community, or those consumers in the community requiring an intervention to reduce risk of a readmission to a secure unit. Ashton House works closely with the inpatient treating team, community mental health services and other community systems of support and care across the justice system.
You will be registered or eligible for registration as a Nurse by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia, and hold or be eligible to hold a current practicing certificate. You must be enrolled in an approved Mental Health course or hold a qualification in Mental Health practice. With the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team and prioritise workloads, you will be creative, innovative and flexible when approaching issues within a mental health care setting.
