You will participate in the delivery of primary health care assessment, screening and care planning for inmates of the Port Augusta Prison. Utilising primary and secondary survey skills, you may also undertake mental health assessment and care planning as well as primary health care activities. A key part of your role will be health promotion with marginalised groups, including Aboriginal Populations. The South Australian Prison Health Service (SAPHS) provides services directly, to adult men and women incarcerated in all government run prisons in South Australia. SAPHS provides primary health care focussing on chronic and acute disease and promoting good health, working collaboratively with Mental Health Services and Drug and Alcohol Services to support and manage patients with mental illness and significant substance abuse problems. We work in partnership with the Department for Correctional Services (DCS) to deliver health care in line with that offered to the general community.

You will be registered or eligible for registration as a Nurse by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and hold or be eligible to hold a current practicing certificate. With experience in primary health care assessment, screening and care planning, you will also be skilled in undertaking mental health assessment and care planning. Along with primary and secondary survey assessment and competency, you will possess sound chronic disease knowledge and an understanding of co-morbidities. Demonstrating a commitment to providing client-centred care, you will be creative, innovative and flexible when approaching issues within a correctional services healthcare setting.
