You will be responsible for providing high quality nursing services under the direction of a Registered Nurse within the Port Augusta Prison. Assisting with primary health care assessment, screening and care planning, you will contribute to health promotion activities in a challenging environment. You may also participate in mental health assessment and care planning.
You will plan and prioritise your own work program to achieve defined outcomes and exercise judgment when it is required to solve problems arising in your work area. You will provide verbal and documented information within your scope of practice to patients, other health care team members, and members of the public, and contribute to your professional expertise by maintaining ongoing personal professional development and continuing education through a portfolio of post-enrolment learning.
This role presents an opportunity to practice primary and secondary survey skills in a marginalised population, and to deliver valuable health promotion with marginalised groups including Aboriginal Populations. Along with being involved in primary health care, this role has the scope to practice mental health assessment and care planning in a supportive and unique environment.
You will be enrolled or eligible for enrolment as a Nurse by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia, and hold or be eligible to hold a current practicing certificate. With experience within the boundaries of your education and skill preparation, you will be capable of providing person-centred nursing care in accordance with the appropriate standards of practice. Your effective verbal and written communication skills will enable you to work well within a multidisciplinary team environment, and you will bring the ability to prioritise workload, recognise and report changes in clinical condition.
