Join this specialised service as a Clinical Nurse Consultant (Leadership Coordinator – After Hours), Providing clear and consistent leadership to the Mental Health inpatients units across Gold Coast University Hospital (GCUH) and Robina campus After Hours.

About the role

The successful applicant will:

  • Be a clinical expert resource for staff and champion proactive, contemporary mental health practice which contributes to the provision of safe, effective quality care for Mental Health consumers, and provide direct clinical care as required/delegated.
  • Be a positive role model for staff, consistently reflecting the values of Gold Coast Hospital and Health Service (GCHHS) and the expectations set out in the Nursing and Midwifery Standards and Code of Conduct.
  • Perform regular rounding of each unit and identify any consumers at risk of deterioration and ensure appropriate clinical review and care.
  • Actively respond to any clinical incidents and take the lead in coordinating the response for psychiatric emergencies/incidence, including absent without permission (AWOP) events.
  • Provide a review of specials requested for Mental Health patients receiving care in the general hospital as discussed and negotiated with the Psychiatric Registrar.
  • Work in a collaborative partnership model with the Mental Health Patient Flow Manager, undertake the roles and responsibilities of patient flow After Hours as per allocation.
  • Proactively take opportunities to provide informal education and guidance.
  • Lead change initiatives as applicable to the position and allocated portfolio.

Requirements for the role

  • Bachelor of Nursing
  • AHPRA Registration
  • A post-graduate qualification in the specialty area is highly desirable.
  • Masters qualification is highly desirable
  • Credentialed for practice with the Australian College of Mental Health nurses is highly desirable
