Position

You will provide support to the Nurse Unit Manager in the leadership of nurses in the Surgical Ward at the Mount Gambier Hospital. Promoting continuity and consistency of care, you will contribute to the implementation of practice changes and undertake service management responsibilities. These will include performance management processes, recruitment, staffing, leave management, rostering, work allocation and attendance management; financial and supplies planning and monitoring. Utilising your nursing skills and knowledge, you will support and work collaboratively with less experienced members of the nursing team. As part of the Surgical Ward multidisciplinary team, you will have access to flexible rostering arrangements and have the opportunity to backfill the Nurse Manager during periods of leave and gain further experience in a nurse management role.

Mount Gambier & District Health Service is the largest hospital in rural South Australia, and provides acute services ranging from in-hospital care by local general practitioners to specialist surgical, obstetric, paediatric and anaesthetic services delivered by medical consultants.

You will be registered or eligible for registration as a Nurse by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia, and hold or be eligible to hold a current practicing certificate. With prior experience in management and leadership roles, you will be capable of giving supervision to student nurses, enrolled nurses and less experienced registered nurses. You will use your effective communication, problem solving, conflict resolution and negotiation skills to maintain a cohesive multidisciplinary team and resolve local or immediate nursing care problems.
