You will be responsible for assisting in the provision of nursing care, brief counselling intervention, education and individual case management of clients living with drug and alcohol problems. Working within an inpatient service with behaviourally and medically complex clients, you will conduct comprehensive nursing and bio-psycho-social assessment of clients, including nursing observations.
As well as providing nursing care for clients experiencing withdrawal symptoms, including administering and monitoring the effects of prescribed medications, you will provide information about services for workers from other hospitals and community agencies, referring clients to other agencies as appropriate. You will be enrolled or registered by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia, and hold or be eligible to hold a current practicing certificate. You will have experience in caring for clients whose physical health is compromised because of the use of alcohol and other drugs, including working with aggressive and disruptive clients with complex needs. Along with the required medication accreditation, you will demonstrate the ability to work under varying workload demands, maintain accurate records, meet deadlines, analyse problems, formulate suitable solutions, make decisions, and set and achieve objectives.
