Facilities
Royal Darwin Hospital is situated in the northern suburbs of Darwin -
the rapidly growing and exciting capital of Australia's Northern
Territory. Darwin boasts a tropical climate and seasons known simply as the Wet
and the Dry, separated by the Build Up.
The hospital boasts staff accommodation on campus, from single
air-conditioned units to four bedroom houses. New recruits to Royal Darwin Hospital may be eligible for staff accommodation
as part of their employment conditions. Further details are available to new
staff through recruitment personnel or the staff accommodation section at RDH.
Facilities available to staff on campus include an air-conditioned gymnasium
and squash courts, outdoor tennis courts and a sparkling 25-metre pool under
shade cloth - a must in a tropical climate such as Darwin's.
The hospital also boasts a comprehensive health library with 10,000 books and
500 journal titles available to hospital staff and students. Medical data bases
are networked throughout the Campus and there are Medline searching, reference
and inter-library loans services.
The hospital campus is about five minutes by vehicle to Casuarina's shopping
centre - the largest in Darwin - the Northern Territory University campus and a
number of pristine beaches.
Darwin is within close proximity to world-renowned Kakadu National Park,
Nitmiluk (Katherine) Gorge and Litchfield National Park, just to mention a few
attractions.
The Territory is also renowned for its recreational fishing industry, in
particular, the pursuit of freshwater and saltwater Barramundi.
Each dry season, Mindil Beach hosts Thursday evening markets that have become
a must on the calendars of locals and tourists alike.
Darwin is only a short hop from South East Asia, where there are many great
holiday destinations at low prices.
