Background
Royal Darwin Hospital (RDH) is the primary acute care facility and specialist referral centre for the
Northern Territory, providing a wide range of service.
With a bed state of almost 300, it caters for the population of Darwin, the nearby city of Palmerston as well as outlying communities and other centres in the Northern Territory and the top of Western Australia. The "catchment" also extends to include aeromedical retrievals from South East Asia.
RDH has been accredited under the Australian Council of Health Care Standards since 1997.
A major redevelopment over the past couple of years has seen an extension to the hospital. It houses a new Emergency Department, Operating Theatres and Same Day Procedure Unit, Intensive Care, Coronary Care and High Dependency Units, Radiology Department and Sterilising Department.
RDH offers an extensive and increasing range of services to the youngest and most multicultural population in Australia.
