Making the transition from student to professional nurse is an exciting and rewarding challenge. However graduating nurses are also faced with a confusing array of new experiences and choices. About our Hospitals
St John of God Health Care Subiaco is a 474-bed acute care teaching hospital that is located close to beaches and the city centre. The hospital provides a wide range of facilities and services to its customers. Medical facilities include medical and surgical teaching units, an obstetrics unit, a paediatric unit and an intensive and coronary care unit.
The adjoining Subiaco Clinic offers physiotherapy and hydrotherapy services, consulting rooms, 12 operating suites, a day surgery unit and a conference centre.
St John of God Health Care Murdoch is a 244-bed acute care hospital, located a few kilometres from the busy port town of Fremantle. Specialist facilities include 24-hour emergency service, obstetrics, paediatric unit and an intensive and coronary care unit.
The hospital has eight operating suites, a day procedure unit, three endoscopy rooms and two angiography suites.
The adjoining medical clinic offers services such as radiology, hydrotherapy and sports medicine with a large number of consulting specialists.
About our Graduate Nurse Programs
We offer graduate programs for both Registered and Enrolled nurses with entry in February and July. Each of our programs offers:
- A generous and well structured orientation process
Our orientation program is comprised of two weeks of classroom and ward based preparation that will provide you with the information and skills you need to function as an effective member of the health care team.
- Three four month rotations
We aim to offer each nurse a choice of rotations in the following areas:
General surgery/gynaecology
Neurosurgery
Ophthalmology/ENT
Orthopaedics
Palliative care/Oncology
Vascular/Cardiac
Day procedures/Endoscopy
Paediatrics
Intensive Care/Coronary Care (Murdoch only)
Accident and Emergency (Murdoch only)
Hospice (Murdoch only)
- Ward based staff development nurses and preceptors
As well as an individual preceptor, you will also have access to a high level of support from Learning and Development staff at both sites. We consistently receive excellent feedback from graduates about the availability and quality of support provided by these people.
- A structured training and development program
A variety of personal and professional development opportunities, in the form of study days and graduate forums are scheduled throughout the program. In addition, new graduates are encouraged to participate in the many education opportunities available to all nurses in our hospitals.
Ongoing professional development opportunities
