GRADUATE NURSE PROGRAM
GENERAL NURSING
The Goulburn Valley Health (GVH) Graduate Nurse Program aims to provide preceptored support and assistance to facilitate the transition from student to competent and confident practitioner.
The Graduate Year Program will include 2 major rotations to your preferred area of clinical interest and the opportunity to explore speciality areas such as ICU, A&E, Paediatrics, Perioperative.
Each rotational area has a Clinical Area Educator dedicated to the speciality and provides continuous clinical and educational support.
Affiliation with the School of Postgraduate Nursing (University of Melbourne), GVH Graduates also have the opportunity to consider further studies in speciality areas once they have completed their Graduate Program. Such studies as Intensive Care, Emergency Nursing, Perioperative Nursing, Haemodialysis and Paediatrics to name a few.

Theoretical Component
A minimum of 55 hours theoretical work must be achieved for successful program completion. Theoretical content is based upon principles relating to evidence based practice and the enhancement of the Graduates professional development.
Theoretical content is presented as:
- Study days (7)
- Presentation of a clinical research project
- Weekly tutorial sessions
- Self-directed learning packages
Clinical Component
Two clinical rotations (6 month) with 75% attendance, through the acute areas with an option to the extended care areas, if one desired.
- Based upon a formalised preceptor orientation
- A competency based skills manual, both generic & ward based
- Objective setting & measurement
Satisfactory performance appraisal upon completion of each rotation
- Experiential learning
- Clinical research project
Selection Criteria
Division 1 Nurse, currently registered with the Nurses Board Victoria. Recent completion of Bachelor of Applied Science (Nursing). Less than 12 months experience and a commitment to complete the program. Excellent communications skills.
GNP APPLICATIONS
Candidates for employment will be required to complete the Goulburn Valley Health Graduate Nurse Support Program application form, on request. Completed applications need to be returned prior to the 19th August 2002. Interviews for selected applicants will be arranged between the 9th of September to the 20th September, 2002.

GRADUATE NURSE PROGRAM
MENTAL HEALTH
We offer a graduate year program in mental health nursing, the main focus of which is work in the inpatient unit with people experiencing acute psychiatric conditions. You will have additional opportunities to experience other parts of our mental health program such as the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service, Community and Older People’s Mental Health.
You will automatically be offered preceptorship and support from dedicated educational staff members who can also assist you with your formal studies. Regular study days address specific topics needed to develop your mental health nursing skills and additional study days in other programs and services address acute nursing skills.

We offer Internet and professional library access to all staff, and each year we offer two scholarships for places in the University of Melbourne Postgraduate Diploma in Advanced Clinical Nursing (Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing stream).
